Perched above the pristine shores of Jervis Bay, this knock down rebuild reimagines the classic Beachcomber for a contemporary coastal lifestyle. Designed as an elevated retreat, the home draws inspiration from the relaxed rhythms of the coast while embedding energy-efficient and climate-resilient design principles.
The upper level accommodates the primary living spaces with an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area oriented to the north, capturing sea breezes, abundant natural light, and sweeping bay views. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a flexible guest/multipurpose room complete this level, while downstairs provides a studio, workshop, and garage, extending the home’s adaptability.
A seamless indoor–outdoor connection defines the design, with large glazed openings and a generous front balcony offering a direct dialogue with the surrounding coastal environment. Energy efficiency underpins the project through double-glazed windows, high levels of wall, ceiling, and underfloor insulation, and carefully considered shading devices, including deep eaves, window hoods, and adjustable vertical louvres.
Balancing resilience and lightness, this Beachcomber Revival captures the essence of seaside living—open, airy, and attuned to its environment—while offering a durable, future-focused family home above the waters of Jervis Bay.
The result is a revitalised family home that celebrates natural light, strengthens the connection to its setting, and ensures longevity through sustainable upgrades – a contemporary reimagining that retains the spirit of the original.
